Some things start out of necessity. For me, Alta Fauna began not with a business plan, but with a personal health concern and a kitchen experiment that changed everything.
A Problem I Couldn't Ignore
Years ago, I found myself struggling with a medical issue that — after I began researching — I realized all of the chemicals I was putting in my body, from my skincare to my laundry detergent, wasn't helping. It was potentially harmful and was definitely making things worse.
I started reading ingredient labels more carefully, and what I found was unsettling: long lists of synthetic fillers, preservatives, and fragrances that I couldn't pronounce and didn't want on my skin.
So, I did what any determined person does when the market doesn't have what they need — I made it myself.
Starting in the Kitchen
My first batches of lotion were made for myself and my family. I wanted something simple, clean, and effective. I turned to an ingredient that had been used for generations but had largely been forgotten in modern skincare: grassfed beef tallow.
Tallow is remarkably compatible with human skin. Its fatty acid profile closely mirrors our own skin's natural sebum, which means it absorbs beautifully without clogging pores or leaving a greasy residue. Paired with other clean, purposeful ingredients, it became the foundation of everything I made.
From Home Batches to Alta Fauna
After an unexpected layoff in 2025, and with steady encouragement from friends who had seen the results firsthand, I took the leap and turned those kitchen experiments into a real business. What started as a personal solution grew into something I felt compelled to share.
Alta Fauna was born from that conviction: that skincare should be honest, transparent, and made from ingredients you can actually trust. I am truly blessed to be able to share it with you.
Every product we make is small-batch, crafted in the US, and built around the same principle that guided those first experiments — if I wouldn't put it on my own family, it doesn't belong in a jar with our name on it.
This is just the beginning of the story. Thank you for being part of it.
